Home

So I’ve decided to get a jump on things and I’m going to do the Creative Every Day post early this month. The theme is “home”. When I think of home, the words “safe haven”, “refuge”, and “sanctuary” come to mind. I find that only the people closest to me come into my surroundings.

I think this has to do with wanting to feel safe growing up. Home for a child is the buffer from the outside world. We all have to leave the nest at some time or another, but as children, this is the one place where we learn, are loved and kept safe.

Below are some sketches of me and my son as he was growing up...

Thanks. He is now 20! I get kind of choked up thinking back on his childhood, lots of trips to Sick Kids, Bloorview Macmillan Centre, school interventions, PT, etc.

He has a rare disorder but he has come a very long way with lots of hard work, love and intervention. I'm proud of him:). He has turned out to be a nice young man.

I could say more about people struggling with disabilities but I want to protect him as well. It's something I'm keeping in the back of my mind...
